Refrigerators
The optimum normal air temperatures in the centre of cabinets should be as follows; Refrigerator +3.5°C Chiller 0°C Freezer *** -18°C Freezer * -6°C Freezer ** -12°C Freezer **** -24°C (Using Fast Freeze switch, not at normal running temperature.)
The drain tube from the gully at the back of the fridge is likely to be blocked. This means that defrosted water is flowing into the cabinet.
Do not use abrasive or harsh cleaners such as window sprays, scouring cleansers, flammable fluids, cleaning waxes, concentrated detergents, bleaches or cleansers containing petroleum products on plastic parts interior and door liners or gaskets. Do not use paper towels, scouring pads, or other harsh cleaning tools. These can scratch or damage your refrigerator.
Clean both the refrigerator and freezer compartments about once a month to prevent odours from building up. Wipe up spills immediately. Unplug refrigerator or disconnect power. Remove all removable parts from inside, such as shelves, crispers, etc. Hand wash, rinse, and dry removable parts and interior surfaces thoroughly, using a clean sponge or soft cloth and mild detergent in warm water. These can scratch or damage materials. To help remove odors, you can wash interior walls with a mixture of warm water and baking soda (2 tbs. to 1 qt (26 g to .95 L) of water). Wash stainless steel and painted metal exteriors with a clean sponge or soft cloth and mild detergent in warm water. Do not use abrasive or harsh cleaners. Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth. For additional protection against damage to painted metal exteriors, apply appliance wax with a clean, soft cloth. Do not wax plastic parts.
If the electricity in your house goes off, the amount of time that the freezer will stay cold varies. A full freezer stays colder for longer than a partially filled one, and a freezer of meat will stay colder for longer than a freezer of ready cooked meals. To preserve low temperatures for as long as possible, keep the freezer door shut. If the freezer isn’t full, you can use newspaper around a product to insulate it.
Full No Frost banishes ice from the fridge and freezer by blowing chilled air around both to reduce the humidity. Food packaging doesn’t stick together, food labelling stays clearly legible and storage space isn’t wasted by ice build up. Defrosting is never, or almost never necessary.
The ice maker will not make ice until the freezer temperature is down to -12°C. It will take a day to fill the ice bucket
Clean the inside with a mild cleaning detergent.
A temperature of 3 to 4°C on average is preferred, with upper and lower limits of 0 to 7°C. At 7°C food will deteriorate more quickly
For freestanding refrigerators you should leave 5 cm on top and 10 cm behind the appliance. This will allow heat to be dispatched easily and reduces energy consumption. For built-in appliances the space needed is included in the specifications.
Drinking water should be used regularly to prevent it lying in the appliance for long periods.
Microwaves
After cooking ENDS, it is common for the Crisp N Grill microwaves to have the FAN, TURNTABLE and CAVITY LAMP still on before pressing STOP button, this is completely normal.
The microwave and heating elements area turned off, however the turntable and fan keep active in order to help spread the heat evenly over the food (as it cools down), this especially useful if you are cooking meat and forget to leave it remove it from the microwave after the program has ended.

Microwave radiation is reflected by metal. If too much radiation is directed to one point this will result in sparks. This is likely to damage your microwave oven.
Please refer to manufacturer’s recommendations when using: aluminum foil, metal, plastic wrap, bags, covers, dinnerware, containers, pottery, clay, china, earthenware, melamine paper towels, paper dinnerware, napkins. It is safe to use wax paper, ceramic glass and glass.
Warm up a cup of water containing a few drops of lemon juice for about one minute. This will remove any unpleasant odours from your microwave.
Dishwashers
The LED indicator will illuminate when rinse aid is necessary. Rinse aid helps the drying process and also prevents glassware looking cloudy.
The amount of detergent to use depends on the hardness of your water and the type of detergent. If you use too little, dishes may not be perfectly clean. If you use too much, in soft water, glassware could be scratched or damaged. If you do not know your water hardness, contact your local water department.
Cooking salt generally contains ingredients that could damage your dishwasher.
Whirlpool 6TH Sense sensor controlled dishwashers automatically measure the level of soiling and continuously monitor and adjust themselves during washing to deliver perfect results in the shortest time with the lowest water and energy consumption.
Using separate detergent, salt and rinse agent allows you to adjust the mix to the type of water in your area and the amount of dishes you have to clean. 4-in-1, or other combined products, offer convenience benefits.
We recommend using the rinse agent dispenser. Rinse aid is essential for effective drying. Be sure to fill the dispenser before you use your new dishwasher.
Ovens
Whirlpool Crisp n Grill MWO’s are designed and tested as Freestanding products.
If you wish to place them in a cavity they must observe the below minimum dimensions and requirements.
The enclosure for the Crisp n Grill:
1. The cavity needs a vent for airflow at the top back that flows up behind the cabinetry (standard with MWO cavities).
2. A 50mm clearance either side and 100mm on top.
3. Do not place anything in the Clearance spaces on sides (as there are vents) and top of unit (as there is a grill that heats up and can create a high temperature zone).
4. Do not cover/close the cavity (front) as the cavity needs to have air circulation at all times.
Note: air vents on product must remain exposed and not obstructed, especially the grill creates a hot temperature zone around the unit during cooking.
Use glass cleaner and soft cloth or sponge. Apply glass cleaner to soft cloth or sponge, do not spray directly. Do not use abrasive cleaners, steel-wool pads, gritty wash cloths or some paper towels as damage can occur. If using paper towels , check on the packaging that they are suitable first , some may cause damage.
Some models have catalytic liners installed on the product. As you cook the liners panels on the wall, located left, right and above, will absorb oils and fats that splatter, helping keep your oven cleaner.
You should regularly do a self clean to remove the fat absorbed in the liners during the cooking process, each month depending on the oven usage.
You will notice the fat build-up by a slight discolouration on the liner.
To do a self clean:
STEP ONE: Remove all trays and racks, and clean the inner glass with hot soapy water and a non scratch pad if required.
STEP TWO: Turn the oven thermostat to 200 °C, use fan forced function where available, for at least 30mins up to an hour.
STEP THREE: When the cleaning process is complete and after the oven has cooled down the liners will release the burn-off product from the catalytic liners and it will fall to the base of the oven.
STEP FOUR: You will then need to wipe the base of the oven with warm soapy water and a sponge or cloth.
Depending on oven usage, the catalytic panels will fill with grease and cease to function effectively in around 2 or so years, after which they can be purchased as an accessory kit via the service dept.
Rangehoods
For a Whirlpool gas hob of less than 7500W power the minimum distance is 65cm. For hobs over 7500W the minimum distance is 75cm. Electric hobs should be 65cm apart.
Yes, you would need a special fat and odour filter. This is usually a cartridge filled with odour absorbing grains of carbon. It is important that the filter is replaced regularly, see the installation manual for further information.
Ideally no more than 3 meters.
In case of a prolonged power failure, surface burners can be lit manually. Hold a lit match near a burner and turn the control knob to the ‘high’ position.
Yes, conversion kits for LPG are available for all Whirlpool hobs. These may be obtained from our Customer Service.
Only wall-mounted cooker hoods can be vented from the rear.
Please refer to your IFU (Instructions For Use) manual for your particular model. Generally, we advise a distance of 750mm above a gas cooktop and 650mm above an electric cooktop. If your Cookerhood was packed with an additional note on height use, please refer to this advised distance. Whirlpool advises you keep this piece of paper with the IFU to keep it safe
Yes. All Whirlpool hoods can be used in ducted or recirculation modes. Recirculation removes unpleasant odours and fat from the air that passes through the hood, and blows the air back into the kitchen. It does not reduce the humidity of the air, so humidity levels in your kitchen might increase. Do not connect a motorless hood to a central ventilation system.
Cooktops
They are best cleaned with a chrome cleaner (Solvol Autosol). Care should be taken not to block the burner holes and grooves.
You can tell if your pans are suitable by using a fridge magnet. If it sticks to the base, it’s OK for induction hobs.
In case of a prolonged power failure, surface burners can be lit manually. Hold a lit match near a burner and turn the control knob to the high position.
Pans need to be made of a ferrous metal. You can tell if your pans are suitable by using a fridge magnet. If it sticks to the base , its OK for induction hobs.
Dryers
Air vented dryers are supplied with a venting kit which ducts air outside. Condenser dryers are ideal for flats and apartments, as they convert the steam to water and collect it in a container, so that they don’t need venting and you can position them anywhere in a room.
Many synthetic clothes shed small fibres that ball up and cling to the clothes. Remove these with a fuzz-removing device, available from most department stores. Overloading your washing machine may also cause fuzzy balls to form.
The washing machine should be placed on the floor, as it is the heaviest. Most appliances from the same brand can be stacked. You will have to use an attachment accessory to prevent the dryer from falling off the washing machine when in use. If you want to stack two machines from different brands ask your retailer or dealer if this is possible.
Washing Machines
Only when your laundry is very dirty.
Turning clothes inside out doesn’t affect the wash performance, but can help to prolong the life of your garments, especially coloured garments or those with a special finish or logo. It can also help prevent fluff balls forming on woollen garments.
